Nutley's Future

The Board of Education Election is Tuesday, April 20th 2010

Polls are open from 2:30 until 9:00 PM

Dear PENN Member,

I want to thank every PENN member for their support and the contribution they made in helping to make yesterday’s election a historic one.  I have no doubt that the PENN membership made a significant difference in yesterday’s election.  It’s not a common occurrence to see what we saw yesterday, and its proof that the community can come together and effect important change.   This is encouraging on many levels.  It’s beneficial for the kids, the teachers, the school administration, the residents and the town as a whole.

That said, we’re not finished, and there’s more to be done.  PENN would like to continue to push for positive, constructive change within the school system.  We would like to hear from you as to what issues you feel are important and what direction you would like to see the school system move in.

A few potential issues to be addressed are:

·         The selection of a permanent, qualified Business Administrator

·         Electronic Record Keeping/Grading –available online for parents

·         High School test scores

·         Permanent, salaried BOE staff attorney just like the Zoning and Planning Boards

So please let us know what issues you would like to see addressed in the coming year.

John Halligan

PENN's Challenge:
As parents we have the greatest vested interest in the school system.  Almost half our taxes go to the school system, and it educates our kids.  Yet we do not have adequate representation on the Board of Education.

PENN's Mission:
To increase participation in Board of Education elections by Nutley parents, family members and other interested residents, and increase our representation on the Board.

PENN's Structure:
PENN’s Committee will be comprised of parents representing each school in the district.  The committee’s objective will be to maximize parental and family voter participation across all districts.  The only requirements to join the network are to provide your email address and go out and vote.

PENN's Objective:
Nutley’s teachers and students need the most focused and educationally oriented Board of Education possible to achieve maximum productivity.  Through increased parental and family participation in BOE elections this important educational objective can be achieved.

Nutley has the teacher and parental resources to prepare our students for the competitive road ahead.

Support PENN and elect a BOE that will support every teacher and ensure the best education possible for every student.  It’s our responsibility and it starts with the Board of Education.
